We proudly invite you for the National Undergraduate conference "CHIASMA 2K17", to be held at Saveetha Medical College on 11th & 12th of October 2017.

Theme: " Noncommunicable Diseases"

We look forward to the active participation of students from first year to final year in various events, both on stage and offstage and use this as a platform to showcase their talents, skills and knowledge.

RULES & REGULATIONS

ON STAGE EVENTS

DAY 1: OCTOBER 11TH 2017 (Wednesday)

Forenoon:

QURIOSITY Undergraduate Quiz Competition

Theme: Non-communicable diseases

Rules:

-          3 participants per team.

-          Two teams per college.

-          Eligibility: 1st year MBBS to Final year MBBS

Topics:

Prelims:

-          Timings: 8:30-9:30 am on October 11th 2017

-          Mode: Written exam on Non- communicable diseases (Based on subjects across all the years)

-          Top 4 teams will qualify for the final round.

Finals:

-          Timings: 11:00 am -1:00 pm on October 11th 2017

-          Topics: Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, CVA, Metabolic abnormalities, Cancer, Neurodegenerative disorders

-          Mode: On stage Quiz for Top 4 teams

TOPIC: The Case to be presented should STRICTLY be in relation to the topic “Non-communicable diseases” ONLY.

Rules:

-       Abstracts can be submitted to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

-       Subject of the mail must be in the following format Sub: Case presentation: (Name of the participant).

-       Abstracts must be submitted in the specific formats given below for case and research presentation (.doc/.docx format only) along with the completed registration form with full payment.

-          The deadline for registration and abstract submission is 20th  Sept 2017

-          For each abstract submitted for case presentation, only ONE presenter will be allowed. Abstracts must contain original case reports and meet international ethical standards. By submitting an abstract, you


confirm that the content of the abstract is free from plagiarism, and that you agree to have your abstract submitted to a plagiarism detection software programme, if needed. Review papers or posters shall NOT be accepted

-       The abstracts will be screened by the Conference Scientific committee and the notification of abstract acceptance or rejection for Case Presentation on stage shall be sent to the presenting author of the abstract within 10 days of submission.

-       The maximum word count permitted for the abstract is 250 words.

-       The participants selected for on stage Clinical Presentation MUST bring a soft copy of their POWERPOINT along with them in a pen drive on the day of presentation by 8:30 am.

3. Investigate: Research Oral paper & Poster Presentations:

Theme: The Research Paper /Poster to be presented should STRICTLY be in relation to the topic “Non-communicable diseases” and related topics ONLY. (A few areas suggested by the organizing committee include the following: Obesity, Lifestyle modifications, Stress, Mental Illness, Cancer, Neurodegenerative disorders, Diabetes, Hypertension, Stroke / CVD, CHD, Osteoporosis, Chronic Lung / kidney disease, Asthma, Cataract etc.)

Rules:

-          The subject of the mail must be in the following format Sub: Research presentation: (Name of the participant).

-       The deadline for abstract submission is 20th  Sept 2017

-          Poster Dimensions: A3 size Portrait ONLY.

-          Posters must be brought by the presenters to the conference on the day of presentation by 8:30 am and details regarding the venue for display shall be collected from the Enquiry desk.

-          Any poster sent to us by any manner (post, courier, email etc.) is not our responsibility and the Conference Organising shall not be held accountable.

  1. GAINSAY- Do you have what it takes to convince? – DEBATE PRELIMS Rules:

One team of TWO participants per college.

Each team will be given a topic ten minutes before the round to prepare and contest against another team of 2 participants.

Each team will be given a total of 5 minutes to speak – 2.5 minutes per speaker.

Each team will be given a rebuttal time of 3 minutes, 1.5 minutes for each speaker.

Selected ten teams will face two more rounds of debating for the selection of the best 6 speakers for the FINALS to be held on Day 2. (Finer details shall be provided to the selected semi finalists and finalists on the day of the event)


  1. STROKES – Art

Topic: Shall be given on the spot

Time allotted: 1 hour 30 mins

Other rules: All the required materials must be brought by the participant A3 sized chart / canvas and colouring / sketching materials

Art works will be judged based on Technical skills, Relevance to theme & Creativity.

6. EUNOIA - Poetry:

Topic: Shall be given on the spot

Language: English /Tamil

Time allotted: 1 hour

Word limit: unlimited

Poems will be judged on the basis of vocabulary, content of the poem, recital and relevance to theme


DAY 2: OCTOBER 12TH 2017 (Wednesday)

Forenoon:

  1. TEATRO - Role Play: Rules:

ONE team per college - Maximum of 6 members per team

Themes: The role play must be STRICTLY based on ANY ONE of the following themes o Cancer in women

o Alzheimer’s disease o Obesity

Duration: 10minutes(7 minutes of Role play + 3minutes of Powerpoint presentation)

Language: English and / or Tamil

Use of unparliamentary language, derogatory reference to colleges / institutions / political parties / celebrities to be avoided.

Use of relevant props / costumes / music shall be the sole responsibility of the participant teams.

Afternoon:

  1. GAINSAY- do you have what it takes to convince? - DEBATE FINALS: Rules:

Two teams of 3 participants each will contest for the Debate finals

Each speaker will be given 3 minutes

For rebuttal, the team leader will be given 2 minutes.

The moderator’s decision is final.


OFF STAGE EVENTS

  1. PHOTOMANIA – “Where the lens meets life”- Photography competition.

Themes:

  1. Happiness in the hospital

  1. Distress

  1. Dementia related disorders

Rules:

-  Any number of participants per college

-  Photographs will be judged on the basis of Photographic skills, Relevance to theme, Creativity

-  Winners will be intimated via email and will be asked to come in person to the conference with a printed copy of the picture.

2.    PLEONASM - Essay:

Topic: The longer your waist circumference, the shorter your lifespan”

Language: English /Tamil

Word limit: 300 500 words

Rules:

The submissions must be accompanied with the following details:

Winners will be intimated via email and will be asked to come in person to the conference with a printed copy of the picture.
