The Department of Pathology conducted a “HANDS ON WORKSHOP ONBASICS OF IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY” for postgraduates in Pathology from various colleges in the Department of Pathology, Saveetha Medical College, Thandalam, Chennai on 05.10.2017 from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.

The program started with the first guest lecture on “Principles and procedures of IHC stains” by Mr.S.K.Doss, MSc Chemistry,Director,PathnSituBiotechnologies Pvt.Ltd, Chennai. He explained clearly and in a concise manner  the basic principles of immunohistochemistry including the different types of procedures done.

Prof.Dr.R.PadmavathiMD(Pathology),Institute of pathology and electron microscopy,Madras Medical College,Chennaielaborated in detail the various “Applications of Immunohistochemistry in diagnosis of cancers of unknown primary site” . She defined the entity CUPS – carcinoma of unknown primary site and discussed in detail the various immunohistochemical markers done to give the clinician a clue about the primary site. She presented many algorithms for different tumours and also discussed a few cases with their relevant histological and immunohistochemical features.

The third lecture was onSlide review and trouble shooting by Dr.P.BhuvaneswariPh.D,R&D,QCScientist,PathnSitu Biotechnologies Pvt Ltd. In this, she discussed in detail the different steps in immunohistochemistry, the problems that can occur at each stage and how to rectify them.

The guest lectures were followed by the workshop. A total of 38 delegates, consisting of postgraduates of Surgical Pathology, Oral Pathology anda Ph.Din Physiologyfrom various medical colleges and hospitals attended the workshop. The delegates actively participated in the workshop.Pretest and post test were conducted. Feedback was obtained from the delegates and the workshop was well appreciated by them.
